News A Minecraft Movie Becomes a Box Office Smash with $301 Million Opening Weekend

The fantasy comedy "A Minecraft Movie" from Warner Bros. and Legendary stunned industry analysts by grossing $157 million in the U.S. during its debut weekend—far surpassing early projections of $70–90 million.

Globally, the film earned over $301 million, with a production budget of $150 million (excluding marketing costs).

• It now holds the best opening of 2025, surpassing the previous leader, "Captain America: New World", which launched with $88 million.
• "A Minecraft Movie" also broke the U.S. record for the biggest opening weekend of a video game adaptation, overtaking 2023’s "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($146 million).

According to analysts, the movie has proven to be a four-quadrant success, resonating with adults, teens, and kids alike. Box office expert David Gross noted that critical reviews no longer matter when a film becomes a breakout hit: the audience sets the pace, and forecasts quickly become irrelevant.

Currently, the film holds a 49% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but boasts an impressive 87% audience score, reflecting strong word-of-mouth and viewer satisfaction.
