  • Two owners of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition have reported melted power connectors and damaged power supplies. To back up their claims, they shared some photos and videos.
  • The first report came from a Reddit user named ivan6953, who used a power cable from MODDIY, a well-known PC components brand. According to him, the cable was securely connected on both sides.
I am not distant from the PC-building world and know what I'm doing. The cable was securely fastened and clicked on both sides (GPU and PSU). I noticed the burning smell playing Battlefield 5. The power draw was 500-520W. Instantly turned off my PC - and see for yourself... I dunno what to do really. I will try to submit warranty claims to Nvidia and Asus. But I'm afraid I will simply be shut down on the "3rd party cable" part. Fuck, man

  • The second reported case came from Spanish tech blogger Toro Tocho, who experienced a melted connector while using a power cable from PSU manufacturer FSP. In his case, both the GPU and PSU connectors were damaged.
  • According to the YouTuber, the issue was caused by wear and tear on his PSU connector, which had been heavily used in various hardware tests.
