Destiny 3 is exactly that—Destiny 3. Not a mere DLC or a revamp of Destiny 2. According to my latest information, it's an entirely new installment in the franchise. That much should be clear.

While I can't disclose everything, here's what I can: Project Payback has been quietly in development since at least The Witch Queen, albeit with fewer resources compared to Destiny 2 or Marathon. The latest update I received was in late summer last year, regarding the change allowing any guardian to use any ability.
Given their accurate prediction of the Prismatic subclass, it's worth considering their insights this time. Bungie is expected to shed light on the future of Destiny 2 post-June.
