Mortal Kombat 1 Omni-Man
The Mortal Kombat 1 roster is expanding this week with the addition of its first guest character, Omni-Man from Invincible. Omni-Man, while not a contender for the title of "dad-of-the-year," is a formidable powerhouse who will take on Earthrealm's defenders. He brings a unique offense and skillset that highlights his Viltrumite heritage.

Previous teasers have showcased his hard-hitting offense and a fatality inspired by the Invincible animated TV series. The developer, NetherRealm, has aimed to make this version of Omni-Man as nuanced as his comic book and animated source material, drawing from a wealth of reference material.

NetherRealm has previously introduced an evil Superman character in fighting games, and while Omni-Man is the first, Homelander from The Boys is also set to appear in Mortal Kombat 1. For Omni-Man, the studio has crafted a character focused on rushdown tactics, speed, and offense.

According to NetherRealm manager Nick Nicastro, Omni-Man utilizes his Viltrumite stance to evade attacks and catch opponents off guard. In this stance, Omni-Man can perform four unique attacks, each with a specific purpose and potential for follow-up moves.

"Passively, while in his Viltrumite stance, Omni-Man avoids projectiles, almost dismissing them in a nonchalant way, making him strong in matchups where opponents rely on projectiles," Nicastro explained. "Moreover, the enhanced version of the Viltrumite stance allows Omni-Man to quickly dodge high and mid attacks up close. Lastly, the player can teleport out of the Viltrumite stance and end up behind the opponent effectively acting like a cancel."

Omni-Man is set to join Mortal Kombat 1 on November 9 as an early access bonus for owners of the Kombat Pack, and it will be available as standalone DLC starting on November 16. This marks just the beginning of an Invincible-themed content rollout. The first half of the show's second season is now available on Prime Video, and Amazon Prime subscribers can access an Invincible game featuring Atom Eve as part of their Prime Gaming benefits.
