Nightingale: Which Abeyance Should You Choose First?
In Nightingale, there are tons of different realm combinations, and since players can tweak which worlds they encounter, deciding which ones to explore can be a real puzzle. Realm cards have big impacts on the randomly-made worlds in the game, so if you choose the wrong one, you're in for some trouble.

Abeyance Realms are a type of world that's more about peaceful exploring and building up your base. They're not as tough as the worlds made by Nightingale's Antiquarian cards, but they've got their own perks. Everyone gets to pick which Abeyance they start on, and if you're not sure which one to go for, here's a quick guide to help you decide.

As a new Realmwalker, Puck gives you the choice of one of three Abeyance Realms after you finish the tutorial. Your pick sets the tone for your starting journey, as the difficulty and the kinds of enemies and resources you encounter vary between them.

Forest — The easiest Abeyance Realm. You'll find plenty of Wood and Stone, and typical Earth animals like wolves, deer, and boars wander the wilderness.

Desert — The toughest realm for survival. Wood and Plant Fibers are scarce outside of oases, and the blazing sun drains your strength.

Swamp — Medium difficulty. Resources are abundant, but the exotic creatures here tend to be aggressive. Beware of poisonous mires.

An Abeyance Realm is a low-risk world, not limited to a specific biome. Players can explore tougher versions of each biome by using Antiquarian, Astrolabe, Hunt, or similar Realm Cards on a portal machine.

If you're brand new to survival crafting games, it's best to begin your adventure in a Forest. It offers a relaxed environment where you can get the hang of Nightingale's basics like fixing things, crafting, and exploring. Plus, Forest realms are perfect for setting up bases thanks to the presence of Carnutes, large spectral deer creatures that can magically grow trees.

For experienced survivalists, starting in the Swamp realm is the way to go. It's a bit tougher here, but you'll find more valuable mining resources compared to Forest realms.

Avoid starting in a Desert realm, especially if you're new. The intense heat makes early exploration unnecessarily hard, and the lack of Wood means relying heavily on Stone for building bases. You're also likely to face starvation more frequently depending on your luck with finding food and resources in the world.
