GTA 6 trailer characters
The Grand Theft Auto series stands as one of the most beloved and well-known gaming franchises, and anticipation is soaring for the upcoming installment. Rockstar Games has acknowledged the existence of Grand Theft Auto 6, yet it hasn't officially labeled the game. However, that could alter soon, as Rockstar has recently confirmed the release of the first trailer for the game in early December. Presently, information on the game is limited, but over the years, bits and pieces have surfaced from various sources. Here's a compilation of what we know so far about GTA 6, or whatever Rockstar chooses to name the next game in the GTA series.

First GTA 6 trailer coming soon

The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, or its official title if revealed, is on the horizon. Rockstar Games has validated this after a report from Bloomberg. They announced on November 8 that the first trailer will be released in early December. While it appears to align with Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards event, it hasn't been officially confirmed whether the trailer will indeed premiere there.

Who's Behind GTA 6?

The game that fans are currently referring to as Grand Theft Auto 6 (even though an official title has not been announced by Rockstar) is indeed in development at Rockstar Games. The primary development responsibility for the game falls on Rockstar North, which is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. However, in recent times, Rockstar's various studios collaborate on a single project, similar to the approach used in the development of the Call of Duty series. This cooperative effort was evident in the development of Rockstar's previous major title, Red Dead Redemption II, and it will be the same for GTA 6.

Expected Release Date for GTA 6

While there has been no official release date announced by either Rockstar or its parent company Take-Two for GTA 6, there have been some hints. Based on remarks made by Take-Two, the game might potentially be released in late 2024 or early 2025. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned during an earnings call in August 2023 that fiscal year 2025 (covering April 2024 to March 2025) would mark a "significant inflection point" for the company. It's expected that Take-Two will achieve "new record levels of operating performance" during that fiscal year. Many have interpreted this as a possible indication that GTA 6 will be released in that timeframe, given the immense success and revenue potential of the series. However, it's essential to note that this isn't confirmed, and the release window and the game title are still uncertain.

In February 2022, Rockstar Games made an official announcement, ending years of speculation and assumptions, confirming that the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series was indeed in development, with production "well underway." The actual title of the new game, whether it's GTA 6 or something else, is still uncertain.

While Rockstar hasn't provided specific details about the next GTA, the company has stated that their general approach to new games is to push boundaries and achieve more than they have in the past. In their words, "With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered--and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway." They also expressed their intention to share more information when they are ready.

Anticipating a $70 Price Tag for GTA 6

Take-Two was among the early publishers to implement a $10 increase in the price of major new game releases, and it's likely that this pricing strategy will continue with GTA 6. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, has mentioned that the company has not faced significant resistance to the $70 price point. As a result, it's reasonable to expect that GTA 6 will also be priced at this premium level.

The Grand Leak

In September 2022, Rockstar experienced a significant leak of information related to the next GTA game, including numerous screenshots and early game footage that were posted online. In response to the leak, Rockstar stated that their work on GTA 6 would continue "as planned." However, the leak did have an impact on parent company Take-Two's share price, causing it to decline.

Take-Two's management expressed their frustration and disappointment regarding the leak, but they also mentioned that it wouldn't have a substantial impact on the company's financial performance.

Subsequently, it was revealed that the individual responsible for the hack that led to the leak was reportedly a teenager, who was on bail and in a hotel room, using an Amazon Fire Stick.

The Latest GTA 6 Rumors and Speculations

GTA 6 Cars
Rumors and speculation surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 have been widespread. One intriguing rumor suggests that the game may feature a Fortnite-style evolving map, allowing Rockstar to make frequent adjustments and changes to GTA 6's world map, akin to the way live-service games regularly update their content.

There have been conflicting rumors about the game's setting. Some have suggested a 1980s setting, while reporter Tom Henderson has refuted this claim, stating that GTA 6 will take place in a modern-day version of Vice City. In terms of playable characters, it is believed that Rockstar will continue with the multiple playable character mechanic introduced in GTA 5, with rumors indicating that at least one of the characters in GTA 6 will be a woman.

A significant leak has surfaced that appears to support some of these claims, particularly regarding the game's setting in a modern-day Vice City and the inclusion of multiple playable characters.

Another rumor in circulation is that GTA 6 could launch as a timed-exclusive on the PS5. While this would be a substantial development, it wouldn't be entirely surprising, as GTA and PlayStation have had a longstanding partnership. In the era of exclusive content, it wouldn't be unexpected for Sony to secure some form of exclusivity with Rockstar for the game.
