Baldur's Gate 3: How To Complete Free The Artist

In Baldur's Gate 3, during Act One, you encounter an intriguing character named Oskar, who later becomes significant in the game. Oskar, a painter, is imprisoned within the Zhentarium Hideout during Act One. By paying his captor a sufficient sum, you can liberate him from captivity.

Upon his release, Oskar advises you to seek him out upon your arrival in Baldur's Gate. Now, in Act Three, it's time to locate Oskar and claim the reward for your past assistance. However, finding Oskar unfolds as a substantial quest in its own right. Here's how to navigate through it.

Where Is Oskar In Baldur's Gate?

Where Is Oskar In Baldur's Gate?

To locate Oskar during Act Three, your first task is gaining entry to the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. This requires navigating past the bridge north of the South Span of Wyrm's Crossing waypoint, which is currently inaccessible.

Your goal is to persuade the Flaming Fist guards to lower the bridge and grant you passage.

Once in the Lower City, head west, passing through the Lower City Central Wall and Bloomridge Park, until you arrive at Lady Jannath's Estate, a prominent mansion. Outside, Lady Jannath's butler can be found muttering to himself.

Upon entering the mansion, you'll hear commotion and witness furniture being thrown about. These projectiles pose a threat, capable of inflicting damage if you're not cautious. Proceed to the second floor bedroom where Lady Jannath and Oskar are located.

If you possess Volo's Ersatz Eye or consume a See Invisibility potion, multiple poltergeists will reveal themselves and engage you in combat throughout the house. Otherwise, you can safely bypass them and ascend the stairs to Lady Jannath's location.

Lady Jannath will inform you that Oskar is possessed and implore you to find a solution to break the curse. Regardless of your actions, engaging in conversation with Lady Jannath and Oskar will inevitably lead to a confrontation.

Lady Jannath urges you to incapacitate Oskar using non-lethal methods. To enable non-lethal attacks in combat, navigate to the Passives option located at the bottom of your Heads-Up Display (HUD), below your spell selection. Once activated, all melee attacks executed by your party members will be non-lethal. It's essential to note that spells are exempt from this modification.

How To See The Ghosts

To effectively combat the poltergeists during the fight, you'll need a means to detect invisible creatures. There are several options available:
  • Obtain Volo's Ersatz Eye by allowing Volo to attempt a cure during Act One, even if the procedure doesn't go as planned.
  • Consume a See Invisibility potion.
  • Utilize Faerie Fire.
  • Cast the See Invisibility spell.
Once you've successfully subdued Oskar, the ghosts will vanish from the room, concluding the battle.

Before progressing with the quest and ascending to the third floor, it's advisable to temporarily depart and embark on another quest line. Completing the forthcoming quest is necessary to advance Oskar's storyline further.

 How To Break Oskar's Curse

Reaching the rooftop of Lady Jannath's house grants you access to the origin of the possessions plaguing Oskar. However, halting the process proves futile, plunging you into a challenging battle until you manage to exit the premises.

To lift the curse afflicting Oskar, you must obtain the Torch of Revocation. This vital item is held by a secretive individual within Baldur's Gate, who seeks your assistance in return.

Return to the initial point of entry into the Lower City, located near Basilisk Gate. Proceed westward, passing Sorcerous Sundries, then continue southward on your journey.

To access Philgrave's Mansion, located south of the Heapside Strand waypoint, you'll first notice the building seems inaccessible. However, head to the western side of the structure to discover a stone doorway. Upon examination, your character will identify it as magically sealed.

To unseal the door and gain entry to Philgrave's Mansion, you have several options. You can employ the Knock spell, a reliable means of unlocking magically sealed objects. Alternatively, utilize your most robust tank, like Karlach, to forcefully breach the wall.

Upon entering the mansion, you'll encounter Mystic Carrion, who will task you with locating the body parts of one of his associates, Thrumbo. The challenge lies in the fact that neither the whereabouts of the body parts nor Thrumbo himself are known.

Thrumbo's location is relatively close to Philgrave's Mansion. Depart from the mansion and return to the Heapside Strand waypoint. Proceed past the stairs until you spot a broken balcony to your right. Descend via the vines leading to a small shack below. Inside the shack, follow the trail of blood to a wardrobe.

Interact with the wardrobe as if you were looting it, prompting Thrumbo to leap out. If you're inclined towards morally upright actions, you'll likely seek to rescue Thrumbo from Mystic Carrion's enslavement.

To assist Oskar, obtaining the Torch of Revocation is paramount. You have two options: either eliminate Thrumbo at this juncture, or discreetly acquire the Jar of Mystic Carrion's Heart from his possession through pickpocketing.

The jar located on Thrumbo's person

The jar found on Thrumbo's person is among the various body parts of Mystic Carrion. Possessing this jar grants you a significant advantage in dealing with Mystic Carrion. By presenting the jar to Mystic Carrion, you can persuade him to enhance your reward and relinquish the Torch of Revocation.

Although Mystic Carrion still harbors a desire for Thrumbo's body parts as part of his side quest, obtaining the jar allows you to return to Oskar with the torch for now.

Should you fail to persuade Mystic Carrion to surrender the torch, alternative methods are available. You can attempt to steal it from the Gilded Chest behind him, complete his quest in its entirety, or resort to eliminating him.

How To Get Up The Stairs In Lady Jannath's Estate

Upon obtaining the Torch of Revocation, return to Lady Jannath's house. However, as you enter the stairwell, prepare for the effects of Phantasmal Force to last for ten turns. Ascending the stairs poses a challenge as Cursed Skulls will use Thunderwave to push you back down. Your objective is to ensure at least one party member reaches the attic above.

Similar to previous encounters, invisible poltergeists must be revealed if you intend to confront them. It's advisable not to engage every ghost; your priority should be ensuring someone reaches the upper floor. Even with the poltergeists eliminated, the Cursed Skulls will continue to inflict damage and impede your progress by pushing you back downstairs.

The Cursed Skulls will only push you back upon initial encounter. Six of these skulls line the path leading to the top floor, resulting in six instances of being pushed back by Thunderwave.

To effectively confront the Cursed Skulls, exploit their vulnerability to Fire and Force damage. However, due to their heightened resilience, a single attack must deal at least 50 damage to be effective. To ease your ascent up the stairs, consider utilizing the Remove Curse spell.

the way on the higher balcony

Bypassing the treacherous stairwell is possible. The most effective method involves utilizing your most agile character, equipped with abilities such as Misty Step or Fly. Across the hall from Jannath's bedroom, a balcony can be accessed by leaping out of a window.

Once on the balcony, navigate to the westernmost side and utilize Fly or Misty Step to reach a small ridge of roofing on the building's west side. From there, employ the same actions to ascend to a higher balcony.

Upon reaching the highest balcony, a door grants access to the top of the stairwell where the Cursed Skulls reside. By employing this strategy, you can successfully circumvent all Cursed Skull encounters and proceed directly to the atelier without impediment.

In the attic, amidst paintings and easels, locate the painting of Oskar and interact with it. Then, engage with the empty easel and combine it with the Oskar painting to unveil a secret door. Behind this concealed entrance lies a hidden painting.

Equip the Torch of Revocation into your weapon slot and interact with the hidden painting to shatter the curse.

Once the curse is broken, a ghost will immediately make its way to Lady Jannath's room, posing a threat to Oskar. Quick action is imperative. As you burn the hidden painting, the Cursed Skulls will vanish. Hasten back to the bedroom to protect the couple from the imminent danger.

How To Save Oskar From Kerrie

How To Save Oskar From Kerrie

In the bedroom, Kerri confronts Oskar for disrupting her peace. You're presented with several choices:
  • Defeat Kerri's ghost: Engage in combat with Kerri's ghost, potentially risking Oskar's life.
  • Allow Kerri to kill Oskar: Opt to let Kerri exact her vengeance on Oskar.
  • Persuade Kerri to leave: Attempt to persuade Kerri to depart peacefully.
To successfully convince Kerri to leave, high proficiency in Persuasion, Intimidation, or Deception is essential.

Should you opt for combat with Kerri, be prepared to contend with multiple poltergeists. Additionally, Oskar, with only 1 health due to earlier events, will be vulnerable. Furthermore, Kerri possesses the ability to control you and Oskar, turning both against your party members.

Given these challenges, it's advisable to prioritize persuading Kerri to reconcile rather than resorting to violence.
