Dragon's Dogma 2: How To Stop NPC Guards From Being Hostile Towards You

As you journey through Dragon's Dogma 2, there's a good chance you'll irk a guard by trespassing or by inadvertently attacking someone near them. This can complicate your mission objectives since hostile guards can impede your progress.

Fortunately, communication appears limited in this world, and guards seem inclined to overlook many transgressions on a daily basis. By exercising caution and refraining from aggravating them further, it's usually possible to avoid them holding a lasting grudge.

Whether you stumble upon an oxcart along the road or navigate through a bustling city like Vernworth, encountering guards in their distinct uniforms is almost inevitable. If you brandish your weapon or raise suspicions while traversing the roads, they might draw their own weapons in response.

In towns, drawing your weapon will put the guards on alert, although they won't attack unless provoked further.

While guards won't immediately engage in combat, their vigilant stance could escalate into violence if you fail to sheathe your weapons or depart the area. If conflict erupts and you wish to avoid harming guards, your best course of action is to retreat from the area and remain away until they've calmed down and pardoned your actions.

Should a guard turn hostile, flee outside the town's borders until they cease pursuit, then take respite at a nearby campfire to reset their disposition towards you.

Occasionally, you may find yourself needing to access areas forbidden by the guards, risking immediate attack upon detection. One effective strategy to navigate among them unnoticed is to disguise yourself as one of their own.

Specific quests may demand stealthy maneuvers around guards within restricted zones. Alternatively, you can opt for a workaround by acquiring a guard outfit or regal attire from a specialty vendor situated in Vernworth's market square, known as 'Philbert's Sundries.'

For a more dependable approach, the Marcher's armor set proves superior to conventional thievery cloaks.

Located on the northwest corner of Vernworth's market square, Philbert's Sundries offers not only Ferristones and potions but also the complete set of armor needed to masquerade as a guard.

Acquiring the entire armor set comes at a modest price of 4,750 Gold, a significantly more economical option compared to the extravagant courtly tunic and breeches, priced at a staggering 305,000 Gold. Once obtained, equipping this armor on your Arisen provides a sense of confidence as you navigate the castle, assured that the guards are less likely to scrutinize your presence.
