Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: How To Pressure And Stagger Enemies

First introduced in Final Fantasy 13, the stagger system was devised to empower the party to unleash devastating damage upon enemies by meeting specific conditions. Despite the controversial reception of that game, its gameplay mechanics left a lasting impact within Square Enix, leading to the inclusion of staggering in subsequent titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Mastering the art of staggering enemies in Rebirth is crucial. While it may be tempting to rely solely on sheer force in the early stages, as the story progresses, you'll encounter adversaries with formidable health pools. Staggering becomes the key to inflicting significant damage, as it grants substantial attack boosts necessary for overcoming such challenges.

How To Pressure Enemies

 How To Pressure Enemies

Beneath every enemy's health bar lies a distinct orange gauge known as the stagger bar. As you inflict damage, this gauge gradually fills up, albeit at a slow pace. However, you have the ability to accelerate the filling of the stagger meter significantly by applying pressure on opponents.

Pressuring entails exploiting a specific weakness of the enemy. This vulnerability can take various forms, such as heightened susceptibility to elemental magic, particular abilities, destruction of specific body parts, and more. Each enemy category comes with its own set of pressure conditions, underscoring the importance of attentiveness when encountering new adversaries.

The most effective method to discern an enemy's pressure points is through the utilization of Assess Materia. With just one ATB charge, you gain access to a comprehensive display of their statistics, along with the conditions required to swiftly fill their stagger gauge. You'll recognize the success of your efforts when the enemy's orange bar significantly expands and the label "Pressured" appears beneath it.

Staggering, Explained

 Staggering, Explained

Once the stagger bar reaches its maximum capacity, the enemy enters a state known as "staggered." In this vulnerable state, they are rendered defenseless, allowing you to unleash your attacks without fear of retaliation.

Adding to the thrill, staggered enemies also suffer 160 percent more damage until the meter depletes, providing ample incentive to reserve your most potent abilities for this opportune moment. Even the toughest bosses can be swiftly dispatched with well-timed limit breaks during staggered phases.

To further amplify the damage dealt to staggered foes, utilize Tifa's Unbridled Strength ability. By harnessing her Chi, she can execute increasingly dazzling attacks with the press of the Triangle button.

Employing these techniques on staggered enemies amplifies the damage multiplier, potentially exceeding 300 percent (earning you the coveted Staggering Success trophy). It's advisable to charge Tifa's Chi just before staggering enemies to maximize the devastation unleashed.

As you advance through the game and grow stronger, you may encounter quests that necessitate pressuring or staggering enemies without vanquishing them, which can be challenging due to your elevated level of power.

However, you can effectively diminish your strength by unequipping Materia and weapon skills that enhance your stats, and opting for weaker gear. If you need to reduce your magic damage output, rely on basic abilities that consume no MP, particularly with your less proficient magic users.
