Sony has stopped printing the “8K” icon on PS5 Slim boxes of the latest revision. This was noticed by Reddit and social media users in early June 2024.

In online stores Amazon and Best Buy have already appeared in the sale of PS5 Slim consoles, which have no icon on the boxes, signaling support for 8K resolution. At the same time in the assortment of retailers can still find consoles with the old packaging. The change also affected the PS5 Slim, which comes with the game Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Sony has not commented on the PS5 box change in any way. The network speculates that the packaging update is related to the imminent announcement of the PS5 Pro. Perhaps the company plans to claim 8K support as one of the technological features of the more powerful console.
Puzzle game The Touryst is considered the only game on PS5 with support for 8K resolution. At the same time, it runs at a target rate of 60 fps.
